Woman electrocuted by third rail

The Inquirer is reporting tonight:

A Germantown woman was electrocuted Sunday afternoon when she fall onto third rail of the northbound SEPTA subway line after getting off at the Broad and Girard stop in North Philadelphia.

The woman, Selena M. Petty, 32, of the 4900 block of Knox Street, was pronounced dead at the scene by staff from the medical examiner's office.

The victim apparently rode the subway southbound, exited about 1 p.m. and then staggered over to the northbound side before falling onto the tracks. Service was cut off for about 90 minutes, according to SEPTA's spokeswoman, Jerri Williams.

You can't door a SEPTA bus*

Here's an email that we received on Wednesday night.
Today, I was riding the #2 bus southbound around 11:05am. We were passing Jefferson St. & we heard a loud crunch. The bus driver seemed very unconcerned with this mysterious metal noise. The driver did finally stop when people on the street motioned for him to stop. The 20-25 passengers left the bus to see what really happened.

Apparently, the bus struck a woman. She opened her car door and the bus rode through striking her car door and the woman. The woman was lying face-down on the street. The bottom of her torso was underneath her car. She seemed to be unresponsive. You could clearly see blood on her face and running down her arms. Her blood was starting to stream down the street.

The police first on the scene seemed to be very ambivalent towards the unconscious woman. I wanted to know on the status of the woman.
Does anyone know anything more?

This came up when I was searching for information on a woman I knew was hit by a bus. I confirmed the details with someone and she is the woman you are speaking of. She is currently home, but she has suffered extensive damages. From what I hear she will need extensive plastic surgery.

Pedestrian hit by R6 this morning?

KYW reports this morning:
SEPTA has temporary shut down service in both directions for the R6 regional rail because a pedestrian was struck on the tracks near the Wissahickon station. SEPTA urges commuters who normally take the train to take bus routes 9, 61, or 27 depending which one travels near their rail station.
But by 8:40am, SEPTA was reporting that it had resumed service:
Residual delays are possible on the R6 Norristown Regional Rail line. Earlier police activity near Wissahickon Station has been cleared.
Does anyone have more information about what may have happened?

UPDATE:  The Inquirer has more.

Four bad bus accidents last week

...And speaking of bad transit mojo, there were four awful bus accidents last week:

  • Mon, 9/8: A 74-year-old woman was killed by a bus at Broad and Oregon.
  • Mon, 9/8: A man in a wheelchair was sent to the hospital after being hit by a 47 bus at 8th & Girard.
  • Thurs, 9/11: A two-year old is in critical condition after being hit by a 52 at Cedar and 52nd St.
  • Sat, 9/13: A drunk driver plows into a 21 bus at 51st and Chestnut.
Be careful out there, folks.

PS.  And then this from last night:

A fire in a Philadelphia subway tunnel caused massive rush hour headaches and PATCO service delays Monday.

Officials say sparks from a PATCO train ignited a series of fires on railroad ties, just where the trains go underground on the Philadelphia side. The train stopped and fire fighters got those fires under control but the train could not be moved.

About 50 passengers on board were stuck in the tunnel for an hour and a half.
