Entries in 69th St. Terminal (2)

Followup: 69th St. Bathrooms

Bob Lund from SEPTA called me back today regarding my inquiry into the pricetag on the 69th St. Terminal bathrooms.

The $400,000 pricetag does not only include the two bathrooms presently under construction, but the two larger bathrooms as well. They will essentially be stripped down to nothingness, and new electrical and new HVAC will be installed before the new bathrooms go in. Also, PA law requires contractors to be hired individually for such projects, rather than a single contractor subcontracting out.

So there's the answer, and thanks again to Bob for getting back to me.

WTF: Just What Sort of Fixtures Are They Using?

Reader Mike Toppa sent me an interesting little tidbit about the 69th St. Terminal bathrooms:

The sign pictured here went up last month at 69th St Station. Check out the price tag: $408,692 to remodel the men’s room and the women’s room. My nice large house in a good neighborhood isn’t worth that kind of money. The station’s men’s room is a modest size – two toilets, two urinals, two sinks. Presumably the women’s room is similar, so we’re not talking about large facilities.

The price tag for these bathrooms is astronomical, no doubt. I've reached out to SEPTA for comment, and I'll update here if they have an answer for me.
