Entries in 52nd street (3)

Where can't you buy tokens?

Last year, SEPTA installed new token machines at Tasker-Morris and 52nd Street (among other stations?)   Now, according to Joshua, you can buy tokens at the booths at 46th Street.
Did you know you can now buy tokens at 46th St. station when the booth is open? Perhaps this has been true for awhile, but I don't think it was the case at the old station, where, if I'm remembering correctly, you could pay $2 for a single fare but not buy tokens. This brand new, 21st Century Information Booth (and token dispensary) of the Future is cash only.

Thanks SEPTA! now, can we please pay with credit/ debit cards too?
Baby steps, but they sure mean a lot.

What stations still aren't selling tokens?  Please let us know in the comments.

Token machines come to 52nd Street Station!

The lack of token machines at major El and BSL stations is a major problem. And it's a problem that seems so easy to fix. That's why I love to hear when SEPTA installs new machines.

Here's an email from a reader/rider about a new machine at the very heavily trafficked 52nd Street station:
I was there today and they looked functional. I use a pass so it doesn't affect me currently, but this is a big deal. 52nd street is such a major stop it should've had this years ago. Now about 46th street and 40th street....
Good question. When can we expect token machines at 46th and 40th street stations?

More (mostly) good news from SEPTA

GM Joe Casey issued his Board Report (pdf) last Thursday. It may be hard to belief, but it's chock full of good news.

Ridership is up. Revenue is up. New 52nd and Millbourne El stations have opened. The parking garage in Norristown is open.

On the other hand, fuel costs are 21% higher than expected. SEPTA has spent $7.65 million more in fuel this year than budgeted.

And an extra $5.7 million (or 17%) more than budgeted has been spent on "injuries and damages."

Recent events (1, 2, 3, 4) probably won't help this last figure.
