It's On
No sooner were the fans out of the ballpark then did the subways and busses stop running.

As of 3 a.m. TWU Local 234 is on strike. There is no bus, subway, or trolley service in the city of Philadelphia. Expect crowded Regional Rail trains.

It is intolerable that the SEPTA unions strike so frequently. SEPTA needs to fire all the strikers and deunionize their work force.
greedy....
Maybe if SEPTA employees showed some competence and evidence that they cared about the people who pay their salaries (taxpayers/riders), we would be more sympathetic to their cause. Thanks for biting the hand that feeds you again, TWU! I have some choice words for you all that can't be uttered in a friendly forum.
Septa gives a bad rap for unions
No, it's the Union that gives a bad rep for SEPTA. Two different entities:
Llet's get this straight.
SEPTA, in this case, refers to MANAGEMENT like Joe Casey and other peeps. They are the ones who plan the schedules, balance the budget, and organize things to make sure the system can survive. They are negotiating with the UNION to make sure they don't strike.
TWU Local 234is a UNION representing workers of the City/Frontier Division of SEPTA; the ones who operate and maintain the vehicles. They take care of the day to day operations so that passengers can get to their destinations safely and generally on time.
THE UNION is striking, not SEPTA. Please use the appropriate terms.
"SEPTA management should use this strike as an opportunity to take their last offer off the table. They should then put a new offer on the table which offers a 50% cut in pay and benefits. Outraged SEPTA drivers can then take their high school diplomas and GED's out into the job market. They will quickly find when they leave union fantasyland and ... Once their homes are in foreclosure and they can't feed their kids, they will crawl back to SEPTA management and beg for their job back with a 50% pay cut. Just ask any of the tens of thousands of unemployed UAW workers if they would turn down a $50,000/ year job with great benefits."

The word is greedy! Septa needs to think of the public, and how people need to get to jobs. Some people who are unemployed, would be glad to be making thier salary! So make the decision, and get these buses rolling.
